[Hosted by Osaka Prefecture] SAKISHIMA LIGHTING ART Workshop Report: A Learning and Challenge Opportunity for Young Creators
~Now Open: Submissions for Laser Mapping Works to Be Projected onto Sakishima Cosmo Tower~
On Saturday, April 26, 2025, an information session and workshop for young creators was held at the Osaka Prefectural Government Sakishima Building as part of the “SAKISHIMA LIGHTING ART” project.
“SAKISHIMA LIGHTING ART” is a digital art project hosted by Osaka Prefecture, which features laser mapping projections on the north-facing exterior wall of the Sakishima Cosmo Tower (Osaka Prefectural Government Sakishima Building).
This project includes a open call for laser mapping works, specifically targeting young creators aged 29 and under. Ahead of the open call, a workshop was held and attended by 11 groups, totaling 19 participants. Under the guidance of expert instructors active at the forefront of the industry, participants had a valuable opportunity to both learn and experience cutting-edge visual expression through laser mapping.
Entries for the open call are being accepted until Sunday, June 1, 2025. Those who submit an entry will also gain access to the archive of this workshop.

◆ Workshop Participant Survey Results

Comments
● It was a great experience to see the works of other participants and learn about the professional mindset behind their creations! I truly appreciated being able to confirm how the content would appear using actual laser projection, and I gained a lot from it.
● I had always been on the viewing side of laser mapping, so when it came to creating it myself, there was so much I didn’t know. Thanks to this workshop, even beginners like me were able to create something, and I’m really happy about that.
▶ A Skill-Oriented Open Call That Welcomes Even First-Time Laser Mapping Creators

What makes this project special is that it’s more than just a typical video competition. Participating creators and artists are offered a free Laser Mapping Workshop (MadLaser Basic Edition), where they can learn the key techniques for laser mapping production. (Although the workshop has concluded, future entrants will be able to access the archived version.)
If a submitted work is selected, it will be projected onto the exterior wall of the Sakishima Cosmo Tower. As a next-generation art project that combines both learning and real-world application, it has attracted strong interest from participants.
